This full-time long-term role has just come on the market and is a fantastic opportunity for a friendly and experienced leader who has line management experience. They are open to interviewing a range of backgrounds whether you’re a hands-on Engineering Manager right now, a Tech Lead or a Senior/Principal Engineer with people management experience.
You will be supporting the team as they embark on building a new booking engine for their platform and completing the transition away from .NET to Ruby on Rails version 8, which is well underway.
Essentials:- Hands-on Ruby on Rails experience in your career is essential as you will be mentoring and helping the backend Engineers to continue improving their skills and you’ll be 60% hands-on.
- The rest of your time will be spent line managing a team of Software Engineers.
- The Engineering team consists of mid-level Engineers and they really need more experience on the squad, which is where you come in.
- 6 direct reports: 4 in London (2 backend using Ruby & 2 frontend using Next.js) and 2 backend devs in South Africa who are maintaining the previous system built in .NET whilst the transition to Ruby on Rails is finalised.
Hybrid in London, Shoreditch 3 days a week.
Salary: £85 - 110k depending on experience & great benefits like 25 days off (+ bank holidays), health insurance, company socials, B-corp organisation, and more.

They’re looking for someone who has strong visibility and impact in the business, so you’ll need to bring ideas to the table and be able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, tech and non-tech.
The company started in 2002 and having received ongoing investment from a well-known firm, the tech team has received lots of investment and growth in the last couple of years, resulting in overall company improvements and success. Since investment, the company has been in a different phase but are keen to maintain their friendly vibe and sociable culture.
Interview process: Interview with me (30 mins), Interview with their HR manager (40 mins), Technical Interview with their fractional CTO, Final stage in their office where you’ll meet the team. They are hoping to have the new hire secured in the next month or so, and start ASAP but they’re also able to wait for the right person.
