Hands-on Head of Engineering/ Tech Lead - up to £130k - Ruby on Rails.

The title is flexible. Technically, given the initial hands-on element, it’s an experienced Tech Lead role but higher level as you will be the first dev hire responsible for taking the company through a big transition away from working with a consultancy.

You’ll join a company that is already established, successful, and profitable. After years of working alongside a software development agency, they are ready to start building their own in-house team, and this is the first dev hire. There are already a number of Product people in the business.

You’ll be involved in creating the tech culture, building out a small team of Ruby Engineers, ensuring a smooth transition away from the consultancy, and making strategic decisions in the data-driven organisation. They would like to find someone who is great with Ruby on Rails and has deep architecture experience.

Location: London - Hybrid in a very nice co-work in Shoreditch - 1 day a week on site or more if you like!

Salary: Up to £130k

Tech stack: Ruby on Rails (essential), React (experience not required), Postgres, Stimulus, Tailwind, AWS, Heroku, and some other smaller tools. You don’t need experience with all of these - Ruby is the most important one.

This is definitely worth applying to if you would enjoy doing both hands-on and hands-off work for a business on the smaller side and would like to grow to a CTO position in the next few years. You enjoy making technical decisions but also are a people person with some leadership experience either as Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or Tech Lead.
