Are you an experienced and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant ready for your next exciting challenge? A wonderful Secondary school in Newcastle are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. You’ll be supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as other learning difficulties such as Down syndrome, global delay and ADHD.

About the Role:

  • Support students with ASD on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Implement personalised learning strategies for students that may be distant and hard to engage.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to create an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Use visual aids, Makaton, or PECS to support communication.
  • Encourage independence, build confidence, and manage behaviour in a positive and supportive way.

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD. We welcome applicants from outside of education with transferrable skills such as residential childcare workers or carers.
  • Approaches challenges with patience, understanding, and resilience.
  • Is enthusiastic and proactive in helping young learners succeed.
  • Can build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Holds a valid DBS check (or is happy to obtain one).
