A forward thinking insurance business is expanding its infrastructure team and looking for a System Administrator with DevOps experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys Linux based systems engineering, wants room to grow, and thrives in a collaborative environment rather than a heavy senior cloud position.

You will manage system infrastructure, databases, server configuration, security updates and the stability of a modern web application stack running in AWS. The environment includes Debian and Ubuntu Linux, NginX, PHP, NodeJS, Postgres and MySQL, with day to day support for internal project teams.

Your work will involve provisioning AWS resources, managing configuration updates, supporting automation, contributing to CI or CD processes and working with infrastructure as code through tools such as CloudFormation or Ansible. You will also assist with documentation, internal support and ensuring continuous availability of critical services.

Your Responsibilities
  • Support installation, configuration and maintenance of servers, networks and systems
  • Apply security patches and software updates while troubleshooting project issues
  • Provide first line IT support and escalate where appropriate
  • Run helpdesk support and minimise disruption to systems or applications
  • Investigate network intrusions and security issues
  • Support the design and improvement of secure infrastructure
  • Assist with hardening procedures for servers, workstations and mobile devices
Essential Skills
  • Three years AWS experience across IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Elasticache, OpenSearch and Lambda
  • Three years Linux administration experience, ideally on Ubuntu or Debian
  • Strong understanding of NginX, load balancing and web traffic management
  • Experience with Postgres and MySQL
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic, CloudWatch or PagerDuty
  • Knowledge of PHP or NodeJS desirable but not essential
