Role Overview
The Manager of Quality Control will oversee and manage the construction quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) program for CloudHQ\’s European data center projects. Based in Europe, this role is critical in ensuring that CloudHQ\’s stringent quality standards are consistently met throughout all phases of construction. Focusing on technical compliance, repeatability, traceability, and standardization, the Manager will be key to maintaining quality during the installation of MEP systems and CSA components. This role is instrumental in delivering high-performance, resilient data centres to exacting quality benchmarks.
Acting as a conduit between construction and commissioning, the Manager will support project teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure the smooth delivery of projects, fostering continuous improvement and client satisfaction. This role requires strong technical expertise, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to resolve issues efficiently on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Oversight
- Lead QA/QC efforts across data center construction projects in Europe, ensuring compliance with project-specific requirements and CloudHQ’s quality standards.
- Execute CloudHQ’s established quality program, and implement lessons learned to eliminate recurring issues and improve efficiency and reliability across projects.
- Supervise and provide oversight to QA/QC teams contracted to support on-site construction activities.
Site Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct regular site inspections during construction phases, verifying that installations adhere to QA/QC procedures, EU-specific regulations, and performance requirements.
- Monitor key installations of mechanical systems and electrical systems to ensure alignment with quality standards.
- Provide technical expertise for contractor teams to ensure proper procedures, methodologies, and practices are followed in the field.
Coordination & Vendor Management
- Collaborate closely with project managers, general contractors, and vendors, facilitating communication and resolving construction-related quality concerns.
- Liaise with general contractors to ensure compliance with CloudHQ’s operational standards and regional EU regulations.
- Assist with integrating lessons learned across ongoing and future European data center projects, sharing best practices with wider teams.
Quality Reporting & Tracking
- Prepare progress and issue-resolution reports, summarizing construction quality status, KPI metrics, lessons learned, and updates for leadership.
- Implement robust traceability and tracking methodologies to ensure comprehensive records of inspections, corrective actions, contractor performance, and quality metrics are maintained.
Continuous Improvement
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within construction quality control, analyzing deficiencies, mitigating risks, and proposing process optimizations based on project data.
- Support CloudHQ in refining its quality standards, procedures, and methodologies to align with the unique challenges of European markets.
Commissioning & Transition Support
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to ensure smooth transitions between construction to commissioning readiness.
Team Leadership & Travel
- Manage and mentor QA/QC professionals working across construction sites in Europe, fostering their development and ensuring adherence to CloudHQ’s processes and principles.
- Travel extensively across Europe to maintain on-site presence, monitor progress, and address quality concerns when necessary during active project phases.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems and CSA systems critical to data center builds.
- Familiarity with industry-specific systems such as electrical UPS, switchgear, generators, and cooling/fire suppression systems tailored to data centers.
- Deep understanding of quality assurance metrics and ability to track and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) during construction phases.
EU Construction Standards
- Solid understanding of European construction standards, regulations, and practices including health, safety, environmental guidelines, and permitting.
- Ability to ensure EU regional compliance for quality processes across multiple construction sites simultaneously.
Project Management Skills
- Experience managing construction quality in projects with multiple stakeholders, contractors, and vendors.
- Strong ability to balance quality objectives with timelines and budgets without compromising safety or compliance.
- Highly organised and detail-oriented with strong analytical and documentation skills
- Proficiency in project tracking tools.
Communication & Collaboration
- Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills for reporting, coordination, and issue resolution during construction.
- Adept at fostering collaboration between contractor teams, internal project managers, vendors, and commissioning groups.
Problem-Solving & Multi-tasking
- Detail-oriented problem solver with the ability to identify risks early and resolve critical issues in fast-paced construction environments.
- Strong ability to manage multiple construction sites/projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and maintaining quality focus under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred), Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in construction quality assurance or quality control roles, ideally within data center development or mission-critical infrastructure.
Minimum of 3+ years in commissioning roles or facility operations with a focus on quality compliance.
Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of quality management systems and their application to industrial builds, particularly hyperscale data centers. Familiarity with quality inspection procedures, electrical/mechanical test equipment, and construction quality systems tailored to EU standards.
