About Us

At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks.

About Engineering at Cloudflare

Cloudflare's Engineering team is responsible for the software platform that serves tens of millions of HTTP requests per second on average. We also build and run the tools that empower our colleagues to rapidly deliver products to market, as well as monitor and deploy software updates across the globe to over 200+ data centers. You'll experience the full breadth of technologies needed to run one of the world's largest networks serving the world's largest customers such as Shopify and VISA.

About The Team

The CDN Configuration team oversees the end-to-end configuration ecosystem across our edge platform. Our core mission is delivering a coherent, safe, highly performant, and resilient experience that empowers customers to modify their traffic routing with absolute confidence. We enable users to build and tailor their own virtual network by rapidly generating settings and deploying updates globally without friction.

What you'll do

  • Collaborating with skilled software professionals, you will deliver robust mechanisms that grant users total governance and safety across their network settings.
  • Your focus involves architecting services that let users seamlessly prototype, execute, evaluate, and discard tailored traffic rules, ensuring optimal alignment with their operational requirements.
  • This scope extends far beyond a solitary codebase; you will directly interface with distributed edge platforms, partnering with cross-functional groups to streamline and fortify our global infrastructure.
  • In this role, you will stand at the intersection of core application deployment and infrastructure operations, driving technical alignment alongside engineering peers across the organization.

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

  • Solid competencies in practical computer science, applying the right algorithms, data structures, concurrency control systems to software design, and building large, distributed systems.
  • Experience operating production systems safely — deployment, rollout, rollback, and observability.
  • Driving communication and consensus across teams.
  • A drive for continuous improvement when it comes to both operations and new product development.

Bonus Points

  • Experience of languages: Rust, Go.
  • Knowledge of web servers and web protocols.
  • Distributed systems, and distributed configuration or state-distribution systems.
  • Experience with safe deployment: progressive rollout, versioning/snapshots, CI/CD.
  • Web security issues and industry standards.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who want to learn something new. We maintain the largest web server in the world, and we face unique challenges. You will be collaborating and designing innovative solutions to improve the life of millions of people around the globe, everywhere they are, whatever their needs.
