About the department
Cloudflare’s Engineering Team builds and runs the software that handles trillions of requests per month. We also build and run the internal tools that build and run our software. The Engineering Team is split into two groups: one handles product development and the other handles operations. Product development covers both new features and functionality and scaling our existing software to meet the challenges of a massively growing customer base. The operations team handles one of the world’s largest networks with data centers in 102 cities worldwide.
What you’ll do
- We are looking for a Software Engineer to help us in our mission to build a better internet.
- Part engineer, part hacker, you will work with our engineering and security teams to build solutions.
- Work on in-browser security systems exposed to a large quantity and diversity of Internet users.
- Work with engineering teams to help secure Cloudflare products and infrastructure.
- Proactively research on identifying and defending against automated agents on the web.
- Experiment with, monitor, design and build tools to unobtrusively challenge suspicious Internet users.
- Build internal tools that help fix security problems at a massive scale.
- Manage and prioritise multiple tasks in accordance with high-level objectives.
Key skill sets and Knowledge
Web Security engineers take part in a wide variety of tasks and projects on the team. One individual is not expected to know everything, but working knowledge in several of the following areas is required:
- Strong engineering background in web security & browser-based networking.
- Proficient knowledge about in-browser JavaScript, the JavaScript ecosystem, and the browser privacy and security landscape.
- Curiosity for emerging technologies in the browser landscape.
- Ability to think outside the box.
- Ability to work and research autonomously and independently.
- Advanced programming experience (JavaScript, Python, Golang, Rust).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with remote teams.
Bonus Points
- Knowledge and experience with columnar database like Clickhouse.
- Experience building REST APIs for analytics services.
- Experience with cluster and configuration management systems such as Docker, Salt.
- Familiarity writing and optimising advanced SQL queries.
- Good Linux/UNIX systems knowledge.
- Experience productionising Machine Learning models.
