About the Role
I’m working on a great role for an Application Support Consultant to join a friendly, hands-on team supporting a cloud-based ERP solution for clients in the utilities and energy space. It’s a mix of on-site and remote working, and you’ll play a key part in keeping business-critical systems running smoothly while building strong relationships with customers.
You’ll be providing 2nd and 3rd line support — so it’s a step above the basic service desk stuff. The focus is on diagnosing issues, preventing them from happening again, and looking for ways to make things better for users. You’ll also get involved in functional changes, upgrades, and the occasional project, so there’s variety and a chance to properly get stuck in.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Handling 2nd and 3rd line application support for ERP systems, digging into issues and sorting them before they become a problem.
- Doing root cause analysis on recurring issues and coming up with permanent fixes or improvements.
- Working closely with key users to gather feedback and spot opportunities to make their lives easier.
- Managing incident tickets — keeping users in the loop and making sure everything’s resolved properly.
- Looking after functional changes: scoping out the impact, liaising with customers, and helping get them delivered.
- Playing a part in go-live support, upgrades, and system improvements.
- Joining an on-call rota now and then for out-of-hours incident cover (shared across the team).
What They’re Looking For
- At least 2-3 years’ experience in application or enterprise software support.
- Experience supporting business systems — ERP knowledge is essential.
- Someone proactive, with a customer-first attitude who enjoys problem-solving.
- Confident dealing with clients and able to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Quick learner with good attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
- Comfortable working as part of a team and happy to jump in where needed.
- Based in the UK with the right to work here (they can’t offer sponsorship).
- Happy to travel to Reading 3 days a week.
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics CRM /D365 CE.
- Experience in the utilities or energy sector.
Why It’s a Good Move
It’s a nice, varied role where you’re not just stuck reacting to tickets — you’ll get to build relationships with users, make recommendations, and get involved in functional changes and projects. The team’s solid, supportive, and values people who take ownership and want to learn.
