This opportunity sits with a well established technology services provider that is scaling its cloud and infrastructure capability to keep pace with growing customer demand. Hybrid infrastructure remains a core part of how their enterprise customers operate, and they are investing in senior presales talent to lead the technical conversations behind those engagements.
The role is hands on and customer facing. You will sit at the front of opportunities, build a clear picture of how customers run their estates today, and shape the future state designs that move them forward. You will lead technical responses on assigned bids and proposals, run workshops on site where needed and act as the senior technical voice across a portfolio of opportunities.
Why This Role Stands Out
You will own opportunities properly rather than picking up fragments of design work. The deal mix is varied, spanning competitive bids, formal tenders, proactive proposals and live sales cycles across a strong mix of customers and vendors. VMware specialists are in short supply right now and this is a chance to apply that depth where it genuinely matters, on complex hybrid and private cloud designs rather than lift and shift work. You will have real input into the direction of the practice, including governance, propositions and how the wider portfolio evolves around technologies like VCF and Nutanix. You will work alongside practice leadership and other senior architects in an environment where peer review and technical challenge are part of how the team operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a portfolio of opportunities across competitive bids, formal tenders, proactive proposals and active sales cycles.
- Act as the technical lead on hybrid infrastructure engagements, designing solutions that hold up commercially and technically.
- Produce architecture artefacts, costed designs and bills of materials, alongside well written proposal content.
- Run customer workshops, present designs and act as the trusted technical advisor through the sales process.
- Translate technical solutions into clear business value, including outcome led narratives, cost benefit analysis and high level transition plans.
- Provide senior technical review and quality assurance for solutions developed by the wider presales team.
- Help shape the direction of the cloud and infrastructure practice, contributing to governance, standards and how new propositions come to market.
- Partner with practice leadership and professional services to align on best practice and continuous improvement.
- Stay close to emerging vendor technologies and feed insight back into the wider portfolio.
Ideal Experience
- Background in solution architecture or presales within an IT Solutions Provider, cloud consultancy, MSP or systems integrator.
- Expert level capability across VMware, ideally including VCF, with strong design experience across hypervisor, hyperconverged and private cloud environments.
- Strong grounding in core infrastructure technologies, including server, storage, backup and replication.
- Familiarity with Nutanix and adjacent virtualisation platforms.
- Comfortable leading infrastructure transformation conversations and articulating the commercial case for change.
- Understanding of how solutions transition into managed services and ongoing operations.
- Exposure to public cloud platforms such as Azure would be useful.
- Strong written communication, with a track record of producing bid responses that win.
- Commercial awareness and an appreciation of how presales fits into the wider sales motion.
- Willingness to travel across the UK where opportunities require it.
