Company & Role
This opportunity sits with an established technology services provider running a large scale automation programme across an enterprise environment. Ansible is at the heart of how they automate infrastructure, and they are now investing in deeper expertise to take the platform to the next level.
You will join as the senior technical authority on Ansible, leading the design and optimisation of enterprise automation solutions. A major focus over the next phase of work is helping automation teams and end users migrate workloads from Ansible Tower to Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), alongside refactoring legacy Ansible 2.9 code onto current versions. This is a hands-on, technically led role with real ownership of how automation is delivered, governed and scaled across the business.
Why This Role Stands Out
- A genuine lead position where you are the go-to person for Ansible across the organisation
- Clear, meaningful programme of work with the Tower to AAP migration giving the role real purpose from day one
- Influence over automation standards, governance and best practice rather than just executing tickets
- Exposure across DevOps, IT Operations and Security teams, giving you breadth as well as depth
- Opportunity to develop custom modules, plugins and reusable assets that shape how the platform evolves
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of workloads from Ansible Tower to Ansible Automation Platform, supporting automation teams and end users throughout
- Guide teams on refactoring and porting existing Ansible 2.9 code to the latest supported versions
- Design, develop and optimise Ansible Playbooks, Roles and Collections for enterprise scale automation
- Implement and manage AAP components including automation controller, execution environments and automation hub
- Embed automation best practice, standards and governance across the organisation
- Integrate Ansible into CI/CD pipelines and wider DevOps workflows
- Troubleshoot performance, security and compliance issues across the Ansible estate
- Maintain and improve Tower/AAP infrastructure with a focus on availability, scalability and security
- Develop custom Ansible modules and plugins where required
- Provide technical mentorship and training to internal teams
Ideal Experience
- 5+ years hands-on experience with Ansible, Ansible Tower and Ansible Automation Platform
- Strong working knowledge of YAML, Jinja2 templating and complex automation workflows
- Proven experience applying Infrastructure as Code principles at scale
- Solid Git and version control discipline, with experience embedding Ansible into CI/CD pipelines
- Strong Linux administration background with good networking fundamentals
- Exposure to cloud automation across one or more major platforms
- Experience guiding teams through Ansible Tower to AAP migrations would be a strong advantage
- Comfortable acting as a technical authority, mentoring others and shaping standards rather than just delivering against them
