Overview

The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.

We have an exciting opportunity for 1 x Museum Assistant to join the existing Visitor Services team. Reporting to the Visitor Services Officer the successful applicant will welcome all visitors to the museum and deliver a wide range of duties including daily public engagement, operating the museum gift shop, opening and closing the site, operating the summer assault course and running the new crossbows range.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors and provide daily public engagement across the museum.
  • Operate the museum gift shop and assist with sales and customer service.
  • Open and close the site as required.
  • Manage the summer assault course and run the crossbows range.
  • Deliver consistently excellent customer service; be energetic, enthusiastic and maintain a positive can-do attitude.
  • Work as a flexible team member with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications and essential attributes

  • Ability to engage with groups of visitors and provide engaging experiences.
  • Interest in the Fort Nelson site and National Collection of Artillery is desirable.
  • A full induction and training plan will be provided for all aspects of the role.

Hours and location

This role will work on site at Fort Nelson for 31 weeks at 30 hours per week and 21 weeks at 24 hours per week, 4 days out of 7 on a rota basis. Weekend, evening and bank holiday working will be required.
