An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Assistant to join our Leeds or Newcastle office, where you\’ll be an important part of our Firm\’s General Counsel team.

This is a unique opportunity to develop and grow your knowledge, within a busy in-house team (so no time recording required!) consisting of three lawyers who advise on a wide range of legal and regulatory topics including (but not limited to) SRA compliance, claims, complaints, insurance, conduct, financial crime, conflicts, confidentiality and data, and commercial agreements. The team is also regularly involved in a diverse range of projects and initiatives within the firm. No two days are the same in this ever-evolving area of work.

What will I be doing

  • Supporting senior lawyers with complaints– including initial review of files

  • Assisting with data subject access requests

  • Assisting the team in dealing with potential professional indemnity scenarios, helping to sort files for release/disclosure requests.

  • Assisting the team with co-ordination of training, production of training materials and potentially assisting with delivery of training.

  • Horizon scanning – assisting the team (and wider firm) with awareness of regulatory developments and thematic reviews.

  • Supporting internal projects including carrying out legal research.

  • Supporting the team to assess potential conflicts of interest.

You\’ll have

  • Experience working within a contentious legal environment (ideal but not essential).

  • Ideally have a Law degree or equivalent, but this is not essential.

  • Excellent attention to detail and an awareness of SRA standards and regulations.

  • A high level of discretion, integrity, and a proactive attitude towards learning and adapting in demanding situations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A proven ability to build relationships at all levels and to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • The ability to balance a pragmatic and commercial approach with working in a highly regulated sector
