Theatre Royal Plymouth is seeking an Assistant Stage Manager for the 2025 production of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas.

About the production:

Join Father Christmas as he awakes from a dream of sun, sea and sand only to find it is the busiest day of the year: Christmas Eve. Watch as he prepares for his Christmas deliveries, feeds his reindeer and finally takes flight into the snowy night. Back for another brilliant year, Christmas isn’t Christmas without this Lyric family favourite, co-produced with the Olivier Award-nominated Pins & Needles Productions.

About the role:

Duties and responsibilities will be those normally expected of an Assistant Stage Manager of a production, as such expression is usually understood. Duties will include, but are not limited to, working with the Company Stage Manager (CSM) ensuring the rehearsal space and stage are set up each day, running certain elements of the backstage track during a show and learning the Company Stage Management track to a certain level to act as emergency cover when needed. Other duties include, but are not limited to property and physical production maintenance; supporting with reset in between shows; ensuring and checking performers personal props before each show; and other usual responsibilities associated with the role of an ASM.

Dates:

The Assistant Stage Manager will need to be available for all the following dates:

  • Rehearsals: w/c 17th November 2025 at TR2, Plymouth
  • Tech: 25th & 26th November 2025, The Drum Theatre, Plymouth
  • Performance: 27th November – 28th December 2025, The Drum Theatre, Plymouth

What is the fee:

UK Theatre Sub Rep Rates of Pay (MRSL Grade 2)

This is a Freelance position. Therefore, you will be responsible for your own tax and national insurance contributions and must have a unique tax reference number.

It is compulsory for all individuals to have an enhanced DBS check within the last 3 years.
