Founded in 2012 by renowned game developer Chris Roberts, Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is one of the largest global independent studios, dedicated to delivering next-generation AAA games. CIG prides itself in thinking outside the box, encouraging creativity and developing ground-breaking technology. CIG believes in raising the bar for the gaming industry and the community as a whole.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Junior Character Technical Artist to join our team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Character Technical Art team to develop high-fidelity characters, as well as bring to life clothing and armours for Squadron 42. These assets will be featured across gameplay, cinematics, and marketing materials.

If you’re passionate about implementing high-quality assets and approach every character with a problem-solving mindset - focusing on high-quality skinning while maintaining pipelines, improving functionality, consistency, and in-engine performance - we’d love to hear from you.

This person will be working at the cutting-edge of development for the action-packed cinematic story campaign "Squadron 42" with a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, John Rhys-Davies, and Mark Strong.

What does a Junior Character Technical Artist at CIG do?

  • Work closely with Character Artists and Programmers to effectively produce technical art content.
  • Work within an existing pipeline and use Maya tools to skin characters and/or props.
  • Check assets in terms of technical setup for their usage in Squadron 42.
  • Work in collaboration with cross discipline peers to make sure tools and skins work correctly, bridging the gap between engineering and art.
  • Support our growth culture and advocate knowledge sharing.

What do we expect from our Junior Character Technical Artists?

  • Someone who is passionate about innovation, improving pipelines, developing new tools, and adapting to new technologies.
  • Experience in 3DS Max/Maya.
  • Character game engine implementation skills (Unreal, Unity, or other proprietary engine).
  • Database and asset manipulation software experience.
  • Character creator software experience (Metahuman or other).
  • Comfortable working with scripting and programming languages.
  • Someone who loves to be part of a passionate team and can communicate effectively.
  • An added bonus but not essential would be to have experience with Houdini and a familiarity with Maya Python API.
