About the Role
Founded in 2012 by renowned game developer Chris Roberts, Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is one of the largest global independent studios, dedicated to delivering next-generation AAA games. CIG prides itself in thinking outside the box, encouraging creativity and developing ground-breaking technology. CIG believes in raising the bar for the gaming industry and the community as a whole.
As an Environment Artist at CIG, you will help bring to life the amazing locations in the game. Built from the star system down, Star Citizen is at every scale filled with rich and diverse environments. Players can seamlessly travel anywhere in this unique universe via ships, and at any point, leave them to explore on foot.
You will be responsible for creating a range of high-quality, hard surface locations for Star Citizen. Huge space stations in low orbit around planets, vast cityscapes stretching to the horizon, remote research outposts, shadowy underground facilities and many more. Cinematic Sci-Fi Realism is our primary art pillar so you will be creating believable sci-fi spaces in a range of architectural styles. You will make spaces that will take a player\\\’s breath away.
Responsibilities
- Create high quality, photorealistic sci-fi assets using a mid-poly workflow, including architectural kits and hero assets designed for reuse and visual consistency.
- Assemble and dress environments within our proprietary StarEngine, ensuring they meet visual, technical, and performance standards.
- Work closely with Art Leads and Art Directors to interpret and execute the artistic vision.
- Collaborate with Design, VFX, and Lighting to balance art, gameplay, performance and overall player immersion.
Qualifications
- A passion for creating inspirational environments, interest in sci-fi is a bonus but not a requirement.
- Experience in creating game-ready, photorealistic artwork.
- Understanding in key aspects of the discipline like modelling, shading, lighting and world building.
- A desire to be part of a close-knit team with great collaboration and effective communication.
- A willingness to provide guidance and support to more junior team members.
If you\’re excited by the challenge of creating vast, immersive sci‑fi worlds – and want to collaborate with a passionate, highly skilled team – we\\\’d love to see your work.
