About the Role
The Character Art Director will be working at the leading-edge of development for the record-breaking crowd-funded project, space-simulation MMO Star Citizen. This role requires a dedicated and dynamic individual who can excel both as an artist and as a team leader. A leader - to act as a motivational catalyst for the entire Character Art team producing the heroes and villains of Star Citizen. And, as an artist, to provide both inspiration and direction to execute on the look and feel of a universe filled with interesting characters, creatures and alien races.
What does a Character Art Director at CIG do?
- Work alongside the Art Directors to maintain the high standards of characters needs for Star Citizen.
- Learn and leverage CIG's proprietary workflows to continually push the visual fidelity of the Star Citizen universe.
- Empower artists to deliver exceptional character art through guidance, feedback and clear visual benchmarks in Star Citizen.
- Collaborate with game designers, artists and engineers to ensure that art appropriately enhances the player experience and provides visual solutions to problems.
- Work directly with production to ensure that schedules and plans meet business and project needs.
What do we expect from our Character Art Director?
- A proven background in a Character Art Leadership position, creating unparalleled artwork for games and/or film.
- Experience in identifying technical and developmental risks and obstacles, creating innovative solutions to overcome them while promoting new and innovative ways of working.
- Ability to create and optimize art pipelines and workflows, particularly in conjunction with technical artists.
- Expertise in creating a unique and cohesive art style that can be shared and consistently maintained across the project.
- Knowledge of major 3D software packages (such as Maya / Max and Zbrush). Expertise with Marvellous Designer and xGen would be advantageous.
