Commercial Lead / Commercial Manager
Build Something. Don't Just Manage It.
Why Join Cloud Electrical?
Cloud Electrical is a long established, values‑led electrical contractor built on trust, loyalty and quality delivery.
For over 25 years, we have built long‑term relationships with our clients by consistently delivering high‑quality electrical installations across commercial, office fit‑out, retail and refurbishment projects throughout London and the South East.
Our clients trust us because we are commercially fair, technically capable and solutions focused.
We don't create problems on projects, we solve them.
That mindset runs through everything we do, from estimating and procurement through to project delivery and final account.
As the business enters its next phase of growth, we're looking for someone who wants to be more than a Commercial Manager.
We want someone who will help build the future of the business, becoming a key member of our senior leadership team, shaping the commercial direction of the company while building systems, developing people and improving profitability across the business.
About the Role
This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the Managing Director.
You'll take ownership of the commercial management of our projects from contract award through to final account, ensuring projects remain profitable, contractual risks are effectively managed and our clients continue to receive the professional service Cloud Electrical is known for.
However, this role is much more than project commercial management.
You'll play a central role in improving commercial systems, developing processes, supporting operational teams and helping build a scalable commercial function capable of supporting the next stage of business growth.
You'll work closely with the Managing Director, Project Managers, Site Supervisors, clients, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure every commercial decision supports both successful project delivery and long‑term business success.
We're looking for someone who naturally seeks solutions, takes ownership and enjoys making businesses better, not someone who simply administers contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Leadership
- Lead the commercial management of multiple electrical projects simultaneously.
- Protect and maximise project profitability.
- Produce accurate monthly financial reporting and forecasting.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities before they impact projects.
- Provide commercial leadership and advice across the business.
- Support strategic business decisions through commercial insight.
- Project Commercial Management
- Manage projects from contract award through to final account.
- Prepare and submit interim applications and valuations.
- Price, negotiate and agree variations.
- Manage final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Monitor project budgets and cash flow.
- Ensure accurate forecasting throughout project delivery.
- Contract & Risk Management
- Review contracts and identify commercial risks.
- Ensure contractual obligations are met.
- Manage contractual notices, extensions of time and change control.
- Support dispute avoidance through proactive communication.
- Provide contractual advice to project delivery teams.
- Protect the commercial interests of the business at all times.
- Procurement & Supply Chain
- Procure subcontractors and major material packages.
- Negotiate commercial terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and payments.
- Build long‑term supplier relationships.
- Identify opportunities for improved buying performance.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with Project Managers and Site Supervisors throughout project delivery.
- Attend client and site meetings where required.
- Monitor labour productivity and commercial performance.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering.
- Support smooth project handovers from estimating through to completion.
- Assist operational teams in making commercially informed decisions.
- Business Improvement & Leadership
- Work alongside the Managing Director to develop the company's commercial strategy.
- Improve commercial systems, reporting and processes.
- Help implement technology and software improvements.
- Develop scalable commercial procedures to support business growth.
- Mentor future commercial team members as the department expands.
- Contribute to wider business planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Lead role within an electrical contracting business.
- Strong understanding of commercial electrical installations across office fit‑outs, CAT A/CAT B, retail/hospitality and refurbishment projects.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent knowledge of construction contracts.
- Strong commercial negotiation and client management skills.
- Proven track record of recovering variations and negotiating final accounts.
- Excellent financial reporting and forecasting ability.
- Strong commercial awareness combined with a practical understanding of project delivery.
Desirable
- Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Construction Management.
- Experience supporting business growth and process improvement.
- Electrical industry background or technical understanding of building services.
Skills & Attributes
We're looking for someone who demonstrates
- Commercial excellence with strong financial awareness.
- A solutions focused mindset.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- High levels of integrity and professionalism.
- Confidence to challenge constructively while maintaining positive relationships.
- Strong organisational and planning ability.
- Calm decision making under pressure.
- A collaborative approach with operational teams.
- A genuine desire to improve systems, processes and business performance.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys taking ownership and wants to help build a business, not simply work within one.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12 months you will have
- Improved commercial reporting across the business.
- Increased recovery of variations and change management.
- Improved forecasting accuracy.
- Reduced commercial risk across projects.
- Strengthened client and supplier relationships.

- Performance related bonus.
- Company vehicle or car allowance.
- Mobile phone and laptop.
- Pension scheme.
- Ongoing professional development and leadership training.
- Genuine autonomy and influence within the business.
- A stable company with a consistent pipeline of work and over 25 years of trusted client relationships.
- The opportunity to shape the future commercial direction of a growing business.
- A clear pathway towards
Commercial Director as the company continues to grow.
- A culture where contribution, loyalty and leadership are recognised and rewarded, not simply job titles.
Is This You?
You enjoy building relationships as much as managing numbers.
You take pride in finding solutions rather than creating conflict.
You understand that protecting margin starts long before the final account.
You want the opportunity to influence how a business grows, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
If you're looking for a role where your ideas will be listened to, your contribution genuinely valued and your career can develop into a director level position, we'd love to hear from you.
