Join Close Brothers and play a key role in shaping and growing our Commercial Mortgage offering, now transitioning from pilot into an exciting growth phase. In this role, you will originate, structure and deliver owner-occupied commercial mortgage solutions to UK SMEs, primarily across the South of England. You will drive new business through strong relationships with internal sales teams, brokers and customers, taking deals from initial engagement through to credit approval and completion. Alongside this, you will manage your portfolio throughout the life of each loan, ensuring a consistently high standard of service and risk management.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in new business development within owner-occupied commercial mortgages, backed by strong financial and credit skills. You will bring resilience, accountability and a proactive approach to growing a high-quality loan book. This is a field-based role, so you will be based from your home office but will spend a significant amount of time on the road meeting customers. Covering the South of England and Wales, the ideal location would be along the M4 corridor, although we are open to candidates with good access to the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare comprehensive credit proposals and present these to credit for underwriting. Engage with external valuers and solicitors to support underwriting and security perfection. Achieve personal annual lending targets agreed with the Managing Director.
  • Management Information: Maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, and transactions in Salesforce to enable reporting on the sales process. Prepare and present reporting on sales and credit performance for the senior leadership and credit teams.
  • Portfolio Management: Perform periodic reviews of a portfolio to ensure the mortgages are performing as expected and the information held on our systems is up to date.
  • Product Development: Conduct regular reviews of the external competitive environment ensuring the appropriate measures are implemented to grow market share. Take an active role implementing new business initiatives and ensure these are transparent and well governed.
  • Relationships: Develop and nurture relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g. Credit, Operations and Customer Support & Collections). Build and maintain an effective panel of brokers and introducers to source new business opportunities.
  • Risk & Compliance: Support Customer Support and Collections colleagues in the management of stressed / forborne exposures and collections & repossessions activities. Ensure that all Governance and Compliance requirements are adhered to and all reporting and reviewing activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards required. Exercise appropriate skill, care and diligence in the performance of the role and management of the business.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF:

  • Strong experience of owner occupied commercial mortgage lending to UK SMEs.
  • Good knowledge of analysing, reviewing and structuring finance transactions.
  • Ability to analyse statutory accounts and management information to structure deals with appropriate covenants, affordability logic and mitigants.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with a client focused approach.
  • Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Results oriented, with a track record of consistently achieving or exceeding targets.
  • Self-motivated and highly organised, with the ability to independently manage structured contact strategy.
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of industry trends and business drivers.
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation and closing skills, with a consultative approach to selling.
  • Excellent diary management, with ability to prioritise and coordinate schedules effectively.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk.
