Clinical Selection is proud to be partnering with an innovative medical device organisation undergoing continued growth. We are recruiting an R&D Project Engineer to support the design and development of new medical technologies, including solutions used within wound care and related therapeutic areas.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle from early-stage concept through to manufacturing transfer and commercialisation.
The Role
As an R&D Project Engineer, you will play a key role in developing both internal and client-driven medical device solutions. Acting as the technical bridge between innovation and manufacture, you will ensure products are safe, compliant, scalable and aligned to user and customer requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Translating client and user needs into practical engineering solutions
- Designing and developing medical devices from concept through design transfer
- Supporting prototyping, testing, and design verification/validation activities
- Generating compliant design documentation and technical files
- Ensuring smooth transfer of designs into manufacturing readiness
- Working to global regulatory standards (ISO 13485, FDA QSR, EU MDR)
- Leading or supporting risk management activities (FMEA, RM plans/reports)
- Collaborating with Quality, Regulatory, Projects and external suppliers
- Supporting innovation, continuous improvement and IP development
Essential Experience & Skills
- 3+ years experience in a product development or R&D engineering role
- Proficiency in CAD design (SolidWorks or similar)
- Hands-on experience building prototypes and conducting proof-of-concept testing
- Strong understanding of quality and regulatory expectations in a regulated industry
- Ability to generate and interpret specifications, drawings, BOMs and design records
- Excellent technical writing skills (validation plans, reports, design documentation)
- Professional communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities and meet deadlines
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to medical device development environments (including wound care products)
- Experience working under design controls and formal development processes
- Knowledge of design transfer into manufacturing
- Familiarity with process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), risk tools, and FMEA
- Background in CDMO or client-facing development settings
- Materials evaluation or laboratory testing experience
Qualifications
Engineering Degree (or HNC/HND with strong relevant industry experience)
