Reach is a community-focused climbing gym built around helping kids grow—on the wall and in life. We’re committed to creating a supportive, encouraging, and technically strong environment where young athletes can push their limits, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for climbing. We’re looking for a coach who loves working with kids, enjoys problem-solving on and off the wall, and can help guide our youth athletes through their competitive season. This part-time, hourly role supports our Head Coach and works directly with climbers ages 8–18 during structured team practices. This position averages 10–15 hours per week, with additional hours available for competition coaching and special events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support youth team practices throughout the season
  • Teach movement skills, strength fundamentals, and competition strategies
  • Provide thoughtful, individualized feedback that is honest, encouraging, and growth-oriented
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and constructive training environment
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with athletes, parents, and coaching staff
  • Model Reach’s expectations around sportsmanship, respect, effort, and mindset
  • Uphold gym rules, safety standards, and USAC guidelines
  • Assist with competitions on select weekends throughout the USAC season
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other coaching staff to support team goals

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Ideally 1+ year of coaching experience with youth climbers or other youth sports
  • Strong climbing knowledge; comfortable teaching bouldering and rope skills
  • Clear communicator with solid boundaries and a calm, professional presence
  • Friendly, kind, reliable, and supportive—especially under pressure
  • TR and Lead certification (or willing to obtain)
  • Familiarity with USAC formats, rules, and expectations (training available)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and move around the gym for extended periods
  • Route setting experience is a plus but not required
  • Competitive climbing experience (or climbing V10+) helpful but not required

Compensation & Perks

  • $18–$20/hr, depending on experience
  • 10–15 hours/week with potential for additional seasonal hours

Requirements

  • Reliable weekly availability for practice blocks (Mon–Thu)
