Climate17 is partnering with a well-established, pan-European renewable energy advisory and asset management platform to appoint a BESS Director. The organisation has been active in the energy transition for over 15 years, supporting developers, asset owners, investors, and financial institutions across wind, solar, and energy storage assets. With a strong footprint across multiple European markets and a reputation for high-quality technical and commercial advisory, the business is now seeking to significantly scale its battery energy storage (BESS) offering. This newly created role will play a central part in shaping the company’s future growth strategy in energy storage.
The role is a senior leadership position for a commercially driven energy storage expert with the credibility to influence client strategy and the capability to build a market-leading BESS advisory platform. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and operating as part of the executive leadership team, the BESS Director will be responsible for developing the BESS proposition, originating new business, and delivering high-value strategic, technical, and financial advisory services across Europe. The role can be based remotely or from one of the company’s European offices, with regular travel across Europe for client meetings, internal leadership engagement, and industry events.
Key Responsibilities

- Expand the client portfolio across priority European markets and stakeholder groups.
- Strategic, Technical & Financial Advisory
- Support clients in defining and executing BESS strategies, including market targeting, technology selection, business models, and investment planning.
- Lead high-level discussions on regulation, revenue mechanisms, and energy storage project structuring.
- Deliver or oversee: Technical and commercial due diligence, financial and techno-economic modelling, including revenue stacking, BESS procurement and tendering processes.
- Provide expert insight into European electricity markets and regulatory developments.
- Product Development & Internal Coordination
- Design and structure a scalable BESS advisory offering aligned with evolving market needs.
- Work closely with internal technical and commercial teams to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
- Contribute to the development of internal tools, methodologies, and analytical frameworks for energy storage.
- Establish and manage strategic external partnerships to strengthen the overall service offering.

- Monitor regulatory change, emerging BESS markets, and technology innovation across Europe.
- Identify new business models, financing structures, and routes to market for energy storage projects.
Candidate Profile
- Master’s degree in engineering, energy, business, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years’ experience in renewable energy, with at least 3 years focused specifically on BESS in a commercial, strategic, or technical capacity.
- Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and strategic advisory.
- Strong understanding of energy storage technologies (standalone, co-located, and hybrid) and their economic drivers, including revenue stacking.
- Experience in due diligence, asset management, or investor-facing advisory is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, with the credibility to operate at executive and board level.
- Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
There is opportunity here to lead and scale a strategic business line at the forefront of the energy transition. You will get a high level of autonomy and influence within a senior leadership team.
