If so, read on… Climate17 is working with a national construction company as they look to recruit an Environmental Advisor to support the NW regional operations, with a mixture of office, site, and home-based working. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a couple of years’ experience to really learn and develop from your peers in the role. You will be joining a long standing, family-owned business who are open to innovation and ideas, so this role really suits someone who’s ambitious, has good ideas (not limited to EMS, but including ecology, BNG, etc) and is a natural influencer.

The Role

As an Environmental Advisor, you will provide environmental guidance and support across infrastructure projects, while assisting in the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives and environmental management systems in line with ISO 14001:2015 requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental support to project delivery teams, including promoting sustainable construction practices, low-carbon solutions, resource efficiency, and biodiversity improvements.
  • Support design teams in identifying opportunities to deliver more sustainable infrastructure solutions.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and contractors to prepare ecological, carbon, resource efficiency, and other environmental assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the development of Environmental Management Plans, Site Waste Management Plans, Pollution Prevention and Control Plans, and Incident Response Plans.
  • Carry out environmental audits and site assurance activities to assess compliance with environmental requirements and documentation.
  • Promote a culture of environmental awareness and sustainable best practice across the workplace and supply chain.
  • Represent the business at relevant industry forums and stakeholder meetings.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and relevant authorities regarding environmental compliance and permitting.
  • Support applications for environmental permits, licences, and consents.
  • Monitor, manage, and report environmental performance data accurately.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ professional experience in an environmental or sustainability-related role.
  • Degree in Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, ideally working towards chartered status.
  • Experience working across infrastructure sectors such as rail, water, or energy would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of environmental risks and opportunities associated with large infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015.
  • Understanding of PAS 2080 Carbon Management principles.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical and legal requirements into practical guidance.
