A boutique renewable energy provider serving the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector is seeking an Applications Engineer to support the technical development of solar PV and battery energy storage projects. This individual will work at the intersection of engineering design, customer-facing proposals, and project execution. The position requires a strong electrical engineering foundation, hands-on project coordination skills, and the ability to deliver practical and cost-effective clean energy solutions.
Applicants must have an Electrical Engineering degree and be based within commuting distance of Honolulu.
Core Functions
- System Design & Proposals
- Prepare conceptual and detailed designs for solar PV and storage systems.
- Develop layouts, system sizing, and energy performance projections.
- Configure storage technologies to help clients reduce demand-related costs.
- Produce financial comparisons for clients under both PPA and direct ownership models.
- Project Delivery & Coordination
- Issue requests for proposals (RFPs) to contractors; review and score bids.
- Monitor schedules, deliverables, and contractor performance; provide weekly updates.
- Serve as a point of contact between internal stakeholders, contractors, and end customers to maintain momentum and resolve challenges.
- Technical Support
- Conduct feasibility analysis, load studies, and performance modeling.
- Contribute inputs to economic evaluations and ROI assessments.
- Participate in meetings and presentations as the technical subject-matter expert.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
- Direct experience designing PV and battery storage projects.
- Familiarity with C&I electrical systems and interconnection requirements.
- Understanding of PPAs, demand charge management strategies, and project financial structures.
- Competence with system design tools such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, or PVsyst.
- Strong written and verbal communication, combined with excellent organizational and project management ability.
Preferred Background
- Project management training or experience supervising EPC contractors.
- Knowledge of local permitting processes, grid interconnection, and utility protocols.
- Prior use of energy management or monitoring software.
