We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day finance operations and ensure accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening financial controls, improving systems and processes, and supporting both operational and strategic decision-making across the business. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Leadership & Reporting
    • Deliver weekly, monthly, and annual management accounts with meaningful analysis
    • Lead budgeting and reforecasting processes with department heads
    • Maintain strong financial governance and internal controls
  • Governance & Statutory Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP (FRS 102), HMRC requirements, VAT, CIS, corporation tax, and payroll
    • Manage year-end statutory accounts and external audit process
    • Oversee Companies House submissions and statutory reporting deadlines
  • Commercial & Operational Finance
    • Maintain accurate costing models to support pricing and commercial decisions
    • Oversee project cost allocation and financial tracking
    • Support capital investment analysis and business case development
  • Cashflow & Working Capital
    • Prepare cashflow forecasts and manage working capital performance
    • Oversee credit control and banking relationships
  • Systems & Reporting Optimisation
    • Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting, and automation
    • Support ERP optimisation and integration with operational teams
  • Team Leadership
    • Support and develop the finance team, including junior staff
    • Oversee transactional finance functions (AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations)
  • ESG-Focus Financial Accountability
    • Support ESG-related financial reporting and emissions-related cost tracking
    • Provide financial input into sustainability and compliance reporting requirements
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify and implement process improvements across the finance function
    • Support scalable financial processes aligned with business growth

About You

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA).
  • Strong technical knowledge of statutory reporting, UK GAAP (FRS 102) and UK tax compliance.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, engineering or project-based environment.
  • Proven leadership and ability to enhance Finance team capability.
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment.

Desirable

  • Renewable energy sector exposure.
  • Experience with ERP improvements or automation in Finance.
  • Understanding of ESG frameworks and sustainability-linked costing.
