National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of the UK's transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC Interconnectors that connect the UK's energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we're working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK's future demands for greener energy solutions.

We are currently recruiting for an Engineering and Asset Manager for our Viking Interconnectors site located in Lincolnshire. As the Engineering and Asset Management Manager you will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure the effective management and maintenance of all our assets. This role involves implementing asset health models in line with company policies, planning and overseeing maintenance activities, conducting risk assessments for incomplete maintenance tasks, and directing the assessment of asset defects on-site.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams based on site and offsite to enhance asset performance and reliability while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory standards. You will be responsible for ensuring that the resilience of our assets and operations is continually enhanced as we seek to deliver excellent availability and reliability for our customers and the UK Energy System. You will be required to be based at site or within National Grid Ventures House. If based in Ventures House, frequent travel will be required to attend the assigned interconnector. Please note you must be able to drive and have a full UK driving licence for this role.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure the implementation of asset health models and processes in alignment with National Grid policies and standards.
  • Interpret central asset management policy from Head of Cyber, Engineering, Assurance and Policy team and implement to assigned interconnector.
  • Produce asset class strategies specific to site and execute the delivery of these working with site operations teams.
  • Develop and oversee maintenance plans to ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance activities including planned outages.
  • Lead a team to define scope of work on all maintenance outages in accordance with maintenance policies and defects.
  • Coordination with OEMs on warranty issues to support with asset integrity.
  • Management of Asset Risk; conduct risk assessments for maintenance activities conducted by inhouse engineers that cannot be completed as scheduled, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Direct assessment of asset defects and issues on site, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to address and resolve these issues.
  • Monitor and report on asset performance, ensuring that all engineering and asset management activities are documented and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to support the delivery of projects and initiatives that enhance asset performance and reliability.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team, promoting best practices in asset management and engineering.
  • Asset data owner for Maximo for assigned interconnector and chair of change management process for all maintenance, asset data and asset activities onsite.
  • Creation of reports to support Head of Operations and Maintenance for internal and external forums, e.g. Asset Excellence forum.
  • Leading a team to define asset lifecycle activities for onsite strategic spares to increase interconnector resilience.

What you’ll need

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering and asset management, preferably within the energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of high voltage electrical systems and asset management principles.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g. Chartered Engineer status) are advantageous.
  • Proficient in asset management software and tools.
  • Strong understanding of risk management processes and methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to asset management and engineering.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, creating tangible content and analysis.

What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £68,000.00 - £81,000.00 per annum - dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
