This role drives real-world climate impact. You’ll be working on some of the biggest and best climate events in the world and build on a strong media network to further strengthen the profile of our CEO and our organisation. One day you’re writing a statement or you’re on the phone with a journalist, the next day you’re writing a speech or you’re joining our CEO during an event. And always you’ll have one mission: to drive climate action, fast. Climate change is the biggest issue of our lifetime, and we're looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Communications Officer to further strengthen our media presence and thought leadership across platforms, our year-round events programme, including Climate Week NYC, and external events. About the role
The Senior Communications Officer is a central role within the Climate Group Communications team. It requires experience in working with media/journalists and social media, and a good understanding of climate change and of organisations and influencers in business and politics. The media work will happen through reactive and planned moments, especially around our flagship events such as Climate Week NYC, the Climate Group Asia Action Summit, the Opportunity Summit, and around COPs. The role is important for our targeted media work and thought leadership, especially in Europe and Asia. It works closely with communications colleagues in our Government and Policy team, but also our Systems (Energy, Heavy Industry, Transport, and Food), our Marketing Team, and communications colleagues in our offices in New York, New Delhi and in China. The Senior Communications Officer reports to the Senior Communications Manager, Campaigns, but also works very closely with the Director of Programme and Corporate Comms and the CEO. This is an international role based in London. The role will involve international travel.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Climate Group’s strategic media work, building and strengthening our relations with international journalists, broadcasters and podcasters.
- Strengthening the profile of Climate Group and its CEO through media and social media presence and through other strategic profiling opportunities such as events and speaking opportunities, ensuring we are front and centre of relevant climate debates.
- Advising the CEO on external engagement opportunities, and managing speaking opportunities.
- Leading on reactive media work in the CEO’s name, staying across the news agenda, crowding in support from relevant colleagues across the organisation, drafting statements and moving quickly in line with a fast-changing news cycle.
- Drafting briefings for the CEO and senior management ahead of media interviews and speaking opportunities.
- Drafting thought leadership content including speeches, op-eds, social media posts, blogs and other site content, and podcast content.
- Supporting Climate Group’s external narrative and key messaging, which shines through across our platforms and campaigns.
- Supporting the external communications work for Climate Group’s events, including the Climate Group Asia Action Summit, the Opportunity Summit in London, and Climate Week NYC – our flagship event in New York in September.
- Overseeing and coordinating media engagement around Climate Week NYC, and supporting media invitations to other Climate Group events as required.
- Supporting the coordination of social media around events.

Where you’ll work
Based in our London office, near the iconic Tower Bridge, you’ll enjoy a flexible hybrid working arrangement of five days in the office over the fortnight. Our office is designed to support both collaborative work and focused individual time. It includes accessible facilities, a well-equipped gym, secure bike storage, and showers. Plus, we’re easy to reach by bike and public transport. The role will require occasional international travel.
