Are you an engineering leader who enjoys shaping how engineering teams deliver rather than simply what they deliver? This is an opportunity to join a global technology organisation in a highly influential leadership role, driving engineering excellence across multiple development teams.

As Director of Engineering you'll define and champion the software engineering vision, embedding modern development practices, improving delivery quality and helping engineering teams build faster, more reliably and at greater scale. Collaborating with senior technology leaders, you'll translate strategic objectives into practical engineering initiatives, establishing best practices across the software development lifecycle while influencing the future direction of engineering across the business.

You'll champion modern engineering approaches including cloud-native architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, AI assisted development and developer productivity tooling. You'll help solve the organisation's most complex technical challenges, evolve engineering standards and ensure products remain secure, scalable and resilient.

Alongside technical leadership, you'll play a key role in developing engineering capability, partnering with Engineering Managers and Technical Leaders to build high performing teams, mentor future leaders and foster a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement. You'll also drive engineering performance through meaningful metrics, improving delivery predictability, software quality, operational efficiency and technical maturity while reducing technical debt and enabling teams to deliver value at pace.

Location / WFH: There's a flexible work from home hybrid model, you'll join colleagues in the Reigate office twice a week for team meet-ups and stakeholder meetings with the other three days work from home.

About you:

  • You have extensive engineering leadership experience delivering complex, enterprise-scale technology platforms across the full software development lifecycle.
  • You have expertise with modern engineering practices including cloud, DevOps, Agile, CI/CD, architecture, platform engineering and engineering excellence.
  • You have strong technical background with the ability to influence architecture, solve complex technical challenges and make strategic technology decisions.
  • You have experience of leading high performing engineering organisations, driving continuous improvement, technical quality and delivery at scale.
  • You have advanced stakeholder management and executive communication skills, with the ability to influence across engineering, product and senior leadership.
  • You're a commercially minded leader who can balance technical innovation, operational excellence and business priorities in complex enterprise environments.
  • You're a collaborative, people first leadership style with a passion for mentoring engineers, developing capability and fostering a culture of ownership and continuous learning.
  • You're comfortable in fast paced, high complexity organisations, using data and engineering metrics to improve productivity, quality and delivery outcomes.
