Overview
Esports Features Writer at ClickOut Media will provide leading competitive gaming coverage. You are an esports enthusiast with knowledge of major esports games, tournaments, players, and developments within the scene; you work quickly and accurately in the fast-paced esports world.
Responsibilities
- In-depth reporting and analysis, providing at least five thoroughly researched esports gaming/betting features per week, encompassing the latest industry trends, developments in the scene, interviews, Evergreen/SEO articles, and Op-Eds.
- Leading tournament coverage in the run-up to big events, providing insight and speculation ahead, live coverage during, and post-tournament analysis of notable happenings.
- Deliver accurate, polished, and high-quality work that is factually sound, engaging, and entertaining.
- Be an authoritative voice on esports betting.
- Utilize data tools (AHRefs, Google Trends, Detailed SEO Extension, GA4) and instinct (Reddit, X, Liquipedia) to stay ahead of the curve with historic and upcoming esports content.
- Build out an extensive portfolio of Wiki/educational content with a formal but engaging tone to educate readers about esports.
- Essential Requirements: Must be based in a European time zone (GMT – GMT +4).
Qualifications
- Strong writing and editing skills; immaculate grammar to create active and engaging esports long-form editorial.
- Experience writing for esports publications/teams with knowledge and passion for events, teams, games, and betting/gambling.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to speculate on trends, understand game play, and know strengths/weaknesses of players and history of teams.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment; ability to shift from breaking stories to evergreen content with effective time management.
- Experience crawling social media (X, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Kick) to cover esports events and time-sensitive work as it happens.
- Effective SEO knowledge with ability to implement keywords and FAQs without stuffing.
- Proven experience in team collaboration; able to work with editors, designers, SEO specialists, and move from copy to publishing efficiently.
- A passion for esports and deep engagement with current, upcoming, and historic esports content to inform readers with world-class coverage.

- A journalism or relevant creative BA Hons or MA degree
- Extensive contact book with teams, PRs, players, events organisers, game developers, and publishers
- Prior experience attending in-person esports events, including live and post-coverage
