Responsible to: Team Manager (Assets & Planning, Infrastructure)

Key relationships/Functional links with: Staff at all levels within the Infrastructure service area, including Director and across the council. Also, elected members, members of the public, private bodies and other agencies.

Main Purpose of Job: To provide technical expertise in the support of the management of the Council's portfolio of structures and to maintain inspection and survey data reports to statutory requirements. To undertake design, contract preparation and supervision of the implementation of structural engineering works relating to Infrastructure assets. To provide structural engineering advice to client officers, senior managers, elected members and members of the public as necessary.

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities / KRA:

  • To undertake feasibility studies and to prepare reports, bids and presentations as required by the service area.
  • The post holder is required to comply with legislation relevant to the post e.g. Health and Safety At Work Act, Construction Design & Management Regulations 2015.
  • To monitor the activities of contractors, sub-contractors and statutory undertakers on site and to check that the quality of work complies with the specification.
  • To liaise as necessary with external consultants in the delivery of technical services, specialised structural inspections and monitoring.
  • To mentor staff under their supervision.
