You will be working for Southampton city council in their Archaeology department.

In this contract, specific finds experience would be beneficial to this role, in particular with ceramics and pottery.

Tasks will include:

  • Assist and work as part of the Archaeology team to excavate and record archaeological material as required.
  • Accurately identify, excavate and record archaeological contexts under supervision including the preparation of context sheets, scale drawings and photographic documentation.
  • Carry out calculations in the preparation of measured drawings and field survey, undertaking repetitious tasks without loss of concentration.
  • Assist with a range of post-excavation activities including processing finds and samples, assisting with the production of reports.

You will need at least 12 weeks of experience on archaeological sites and, ideally, have finds experience around pottery and ceramics.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Archaeological degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Card.

Knowledge:

  • Experience of working on archaeological sites and excavations.
  • Experience of working as part of archaeological project teams.
  • Experience of post excavation activities.
