Our Leith based client are seeking a talented and driven Mechanical Engineer to join their hardware development team. This role is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in mechanical design and product development, who is ready to take ownership of projects and contribute to the design and manufacturing of innovative hardware solutions. This role will allow the right candidate to grow and develop their skills in a supportive environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for hardware products, from concept through production within budget and timescales.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Fusion 360.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Conduct prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs.
  • Support the transition of designs from prototype to mass production, including supplier engagement and quality assurance.
  • Analyse mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation and version control of design files and specifications.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Proven success in mechanical design, preferably in a commercial hardware development environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360).
  • Experience with prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining).
  • Familiarity with thermal, structural, and vibration analysis.
  • Experience of manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, and die casting.
  • Experience with simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of electronics packaging and integration.
  • Experience with PLM.
  • Exposure to regulatory standards and compliance (e.g., CE, UL).
  • Experience working in Agile or fast-paced product development cycles.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and able to deal with multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Conscientious and hardworking individual willing to take responsibility for ensuring activities are completed in the required time frame.
  • Delivery focused, with a proven track record in working in similar planning environments.
