As a Fabricator at Tees Dock, you will work as part of the site maintenance team to ensure that all plant, machinery, and equipment operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This is a hands-on role involving inspections, fabrication, welding, repairs, and planned maintenance activities within a heavy industrial environment. You’ll contribute to safe working practices, deliver high-quality engineering support, and play an important role in maintaining operational continuity for the Tees Dock site.

The Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Follow all relevant site rules, procedures, and safety standards.
    • Attend toolbox talks delivered by Terminal Management.
    • Carry out risk assessments and produce method statements where required.
    • Ensure all RAMS documentation is suitable and applied to tasks.
    • Sign onto the appropriate Permit to Work or Clearance to Work before beginning tasks.
    • Conduct mechanical isolations when authorised, in line with isolation procedures.
    • Understand and follow all emergency procedures.
  • Planning
    • Review previous inspection reports and obtain relevant information from colleagues and supervisors.
    • Plan, risk-assess, and execute allocated maintenance and fabrication activities.
  • Decision Making & Problem Solving
    • Make informed decisions regarding hazard identification and safe working.
    • Prioritise workload in line with maintenance objectives following discussion with the supervisor.
    • Apply judgement and experience to resolve incidents and technical issues.
  • Operational Tasks
    • Perform remedial and preventative maintenance based on agreed priorities.
    • Deliver high-quality fabrication and welding work in line with technical requirements.
    • Provide effective feedback to colleagues and supervisors to support overall engineering performance.
    • Suggest improvements to equipment safety, performance, tooling, and working practices.
    • Work flexibly as an effective team member, using knowledge and experience to support others.
    • Participate in relevant training and demonstrate commitment to personal development.
    • Maintain self-discipline, focus, and motivation in all areas of work.
  • Communication
    • Produce clear written and verbal reports on work completed and work required.
    • Liaise regularly with the Mechanical Supervisor regarding daily activities and priorities.
    • Collaborate with engineering, operational colleagues, and contractors during joint work.
  • Information Management
    • Interpret and act upon information from technical manuals, written instructions, RAMS, and previous reports.
    • Use IT systems and standard software packages to support work execution and documentation.
  • Other Notes
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding company information, projects, and operations.
    • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required and adapt to changes in objectives or priorities.

The Requirements

  • Experience & Knowledge: Time-served tradesperson with experience in welding and fabrication within a heavy industrial environment (e.g., processing plant, dock operations). Knowledge of current welding and fabrication techniques (desirable).
  • Qualifications: Level 2 Skills for Life (numeracy, literacy, ITQ) or GCSE equivalent/higher. Time-served apprenticeship in welding, fabrication, or plating (NVQ/C&G Level 3). Advanced welding qualification (desirable). Risk Assessment training. IOSH Working Safely (desirable). Effective communication skills. Applicants must hold, be working towards, or be willing to work towards the required qualifications within a reasonable timeframe.
