We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Estates Officerto join our Estates Department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and improving the mechanical infrastructure that supports our police buildings and operational facilities.

As a Mechanical Estates Officer, you will ensure that critical mechanical systems across our estate remain safe, compliant, reliable, and fit for purpose, helping to support frontline policing 24 hours a day.

The Role

Reporting to the Estates Manager, you will be responsible for the management, maintenance, inspection, and improvement of mechanical building services across a diverse property portfolio including police stations, custody suites, operational buildings, offices, and specialist facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing planned preventative maintenance programmes for mechanical services.




• Monitoring contractor performance to ensure work is delivered safely on time, within budget, and to the required standards.




• Ensuring statutory compliance for mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), water hygiene, pressure systems, lifts, generators and associated plant.




• Supporting the delivery of refurbishment, maintenance, and capital projects.




• Carrying out condition surveys and identifying lifecycle replacement requirements.




• Providing technical advice and guidance to colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.




• Investigating faults and coordinating reactive maintenance to minimise operational disruption.




• Maintaining accurate records, reports, certification, and asset information.




• Supporting health and safety compliance and ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and Police Force policies.




• Respond to emergency situations or system failures and partipate in the Estates on-call rota.

About You

We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a busy operational environment.

You will ideally have:

• A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.




• Membership of relevant professional body (e.g. IWFM)




• Experience managing mechanical building services within a complex estate.




• Knowledge of HVAC, heating systems, water systems, plumbing, and mechanical plant.




• Understanding of statutory compliance and relevant legislation including Health & Safety requirements.




• Experience managing external contractors and service providers.




• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.




• Good IT skills with experience using maintenance or asset management systems.




• A full UK driving licence.
