Salary: Scale 3 / 4 (£25,242 - £29,859) plus shift allowance and weekend work enhancement per annum. Allowances: 20% shift allowance and 262 hours weekend work enhancement. This equates to approx. £8,475 (gross) per annum in addition to yearly salary (figure based on a starting salary of £25,242). Allowances are paid from day 1 in post.

As a Detention Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining public safety and ensuring the well-being of detainees within our custody suites. What You’ll Do
- Supervise and ensure the safety and security of detainees in Cleveland Police’s custody suites.
- Work across the custody estate, primarily at Middlesbrough Custody Suite, with occasional duties at Hartlepool Resilience Suite during peak demand.
- Support the Custody Officer from arrival to departure of detainees, including administrative tasks.
- Assist in managing and processing detainees in line with:
- Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE)
- Terrorism Act
- Crime (Sentences) Act
- Authorised Professional Practice (APP)

- Flexibility to meet the demands of the role.
- Commitment to completing mandatory Personal Safety Training and First Aid Training upon appointment.
- Willingness to be trained in the use of a defibrillator.

This is a permanent, full-time post with a weekly average of 37 hours, working part of a 24 hour rotating shift pattern. The suite is open 24/7 365 days a year including bank holidays to provide a critical service to the organisation.

The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 28th January 2026, from 18:00 – 20:00, at Cleveland Police Central HQ, Hemlington. Once you have submitted your Expression of Interest and the advert has closed, you will receive an invitation to attend this event.
