As a Police Constable you will play a vital role in ensuring that the communities of Cleveland are kept safe. It isn’t easy but it is rewarding and can be a career like no other. We want people to join us who have a range of life experiences and backgrounds; it is vitally important that we represent all the communities that we serve.

Do you have an analytical mind and love to solve problems? Then you may wish to continue your application on our Detective Pathway. You will complete your initial training and your tutor phase within our response/neighbourhood policing, before you move on to an investigative role. During the application, you will be asked to tick your preferred pathway via the Police Constable Entry Programme.

The PCEP does not require you to study for a university qualification during probation. This route normally takes two years, after which, if you successfully complete probation, you become a PC. As set out in Police Regulation 10, you will need a level 3 qualification (two A-levels or the equivalent) or significant and equivalent work experience.

Eligibility

  • Be 17 years of age or older (you must be 18 by the time you are appointed)
  • Be a British Citizen, an EC/EEA national, Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom
  • Hold a full UK car manual driving licence, with 6 months driving experience when appointed
  • Basic level of literacy and numeracy skills, you may be asked for evidence of this as part of the eligibility criteria
  • Level 3 qualification equivalent to at least 2 A-Levels
  • Have lived in the UK for over 3 years
  • Be able to pass the vetting requirements
  • Not have tattoos on your hands, neck, forearms or face that could be offensive
  • Not be registered bankrupt (or have bankruptcy debts that have been discharged within the past three years). If you have any other outstanding and unmanageable debts, please contact us for more information
  • Be able to pass a job-related fitness test
  • Be able to pass a medical assessment
