Cleveland & Co is a specialist professional services firm, advising clients on complex and evolving legal and regulatory issues. We have ongoing requirements to update our WordPress website so it showcases our people, expertise and thought leadership. We’re looking for a WordPress & Digital Design Apprentice to support this programme of work. This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys combining design, content and technology to create polished, professional web experiences.
The Role
- Implement our updated visual identity across the website using WordPress and Divi
- Build and refine responsive layouts for key pages (homepage, services, campaigns, team profiles, client stories, insights)
- Optimise images, videos and other media for performance and usability
- Configure and test forms and basic CRM integrations to ensure enquiries route to the right people
- Improve navigation, tagging and content structure to make it easier for users to find relevant information
- Support ongoing site improvements, including readability, accessibility and performance
You’ll gain exposure to how a professional services firm uses digital to communicate with clients, prospects and partners, and you’ll be involved in real, visible changes to the site.
Key Skills & Capabilities
- 1. WordPress & Divi Builder
- Confident working within WordPress as a CMS (pages, posts, menus, taxonomies, media library).
- Practical experience using Divi Builder, including:
- Creating and editing layouts with rows, columns and modules
- Applying and adjusting global styles, theme options and templates
- Reusing sections and modules for consistency across pages
- Ability to configure and customise:
- Homepage layouts, rotating banners/sliders, and featured content areas
- Team profile templates (e.g. lawyer profiles with bio, photo, contact buttons, authored articles, speaking engagements)
- Service and campaign landing pages with structured content, downloads and forms
- Strong sense of visual design and typography, able to:
- Apply a modern, high‑contrast typographic system
- Use an elegant, professional colour palette in line with brand guidelines
- Design layouts with appropriate white space for clarity and readability
- Responsive layouts that work seamlessly on mobile, tablet and desktop
- Subtle animations and hover effects (e.g. on cards, buttons, team profiles) without cluttering the UI
- Ability to optimise images for web:
- Correct sizing, aspect ratios and cropping for different components (banners, portraits, thumbnails)
- Compression and file formats to balance quality and page speed
- Adding and styling video modules/blocks
- Creating a video hub with filtering/tagging
- Integrating social video snippets with share buttons for LinkedIn and YouTube
- Streamlined global navigation (About, Expertise, Insights, Careers, Contact)
- Clear sub‑navigation for industries and services with strong calls‑to‑action
- Categories, tags and taxonomies on blog articles
- Creating tabbed navigation, accordion FAQs, and hover previews
- Experience configuring WordPress forms (e.g. Gravity Forms, Contact Form 7, Divi Forms or similar), including:
- More advanced forms for the Contact page
- Connect forms with a CRM (e.g. via plugins or connectors)
- Trigger automated acknowledgement emails and lead notifications to the correct team
- Designing clean grid layouts for pages
- Presenting complex legal topics as clear, scannable sections with headings, bullets, and key takeaways
- Showcasing client stories, testimonials and partnerships in an engaging, professional way
- Campaign pages with infographics, key takeaways and downloadable whitepapers
- Team profiles showing expertise tags
- Awareness of basic performance optimisation:
- Reducing heavy assets, minimising layout shift, sensible use of animations
- Using caching/CDN plugins where directed by senior team member
- Sufficient colour contrast and legible font sizes
- Meaningful link text and button labels
- Sensible heading hierarchy and structured content for screen readers
Detail‑oriented: diligent about consistency in fonts, spacing, colours, and component use.
Organised: able to manage multiple page updates, track changes, and document what’s been done.
Collaborative: comfortable taking briefs from non‑technical stakeholders (lawyers, leadership) and translating them into web updates.
Curious and proactive learner: willing to test, iterate and improve layouts based on feedback and analytics where available.
Professional communication: clear written and verbal communication, especially when discussing timelines, issues, or design decisions.
Desirable / “Nice to Have” Experience (Not essential, but helpful and will be developed during the apprenticeship.)
- Experience with design tools such as Figma
- Basic understanding of SEO‑friendly on‑page practices (headings, meta descriptions, internal linking).
- Experience using post types or custom fields to structure content.
- Any prior experience working on a professional services site (legal, consulting, financial services).
