Cleveland Clinic London are looking to recruit a Specialist Dietitian to join our Bank Team. The Specialist Dietitian will be responsible for the provision of clinical leadership for dietetics within the area of complex nutrition support, critical care, gastroenterology and bariatrics. This role will focus on developing, delivering and evaluating a highly specialist and evidence-based Nutrition and Dietetic service with the provision of expert dietetic assessment, treatment and advice. As an experienced practitioner, the Specialist Dietitian will work alongside Pharmacy and the Advanced Specialist dietitians and will provide dietetic input into the multidisciplinary Nutrition Support Team.

This is a Bank role with the following shift patterns: Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00

What will your duties include?

  • Assists with the development and delivery of the ICU, Neuro and AAU Nutrition and Dietetic service - advises on policy, guidance and standards in order to ensure that high quality dietetic input is provided to all patients.
  • Works autonomously and within the multidisciplinary team in providing expert dietetic assessment of patients with diverse and highly complex physical healthcare needs. This will include the calculation of nutritional requirements, interpretation of relevant biochemistry and consideration of anthropometry, physical and mental health parameters and clinical condition.
  • Provides specialist dietetic advice to the multidisciplinary team through attendance and participation in MDT meetings and ward rounds (MDT meetings when required).
  • Takes into account the nutritional considerations of medications and interventions that are frequently used in the critical care setting, able to adapt nutrition care plans accordingly and make appropriate recommendations to the clinical team.
  • Identifies patients at risk of re-feeding syndrome and provides advice to clinicians on appropriate actions to avoid and/or manage this potentially life-threatening condition.
  • Works alongside Pharmacy in the provision of appropriate parenteral and enteral nutrition regimes for individual patients and undertakes additional training as required in order to ensure that practice remains up to date in this specialist area of nutrition support.
  • Takes a lead in discussions with the patient, family/carers and MDT regarding advanced care planning relating to nutrition and hydration and on ethical issues regarding the management of nutrition and hydration.

What we need from you?

  • BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics or Postgraduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and training in specialist area.
  • Evidence of involvement in the facilitation of clinical Dietetic student placements (clinical supervisory skills training).
  • Significant dietetic experience within a general dietetic setting and specialist experience in the nutritional management of patients within critical care and/or complex nutrition support.
  • Experience of utilising behaviour change and counselling skills within day-to-day work.
  • Education to Masters level or equivalent (desirable).
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (desirable).
  • Advanced training in behaviour change/motivational interviewing (desirable).
