What You’ll Be Doing

• Work in a cross‑functional team, collaborating with marketers, designers, data analysts and UX writers, to grow our reach and improve the financial health of our users.
• Build and ship high‑impact web experiences using React and Next.js.
• Create motion‑led, visually engaging pages—animations, interactions and storytelling that bring our brand to life.
• Own pages end‑to‑end—development, testing, optimisation and deployment, collaborating with designers, marketers and analysts to bring ideas to life.
• Take full ownership of our website—stewarding the health of the repository, including its structure, CMS integrity and security posture.
• Improve performance, SEO and build practices across our stack (Next.js, DatoCMS, Tailwind, Vercel).

Whichever squad and part of the business you land in, you will ship changes multiple times a week to our hundreds of thousands of active users and see your work having a material impact on the financial health of those most in need.

About You

You are passionate about making a positive difference in society by improving the financial health of our users. You align with our company values and engineering principles, which drive our ways of working and software delivery. You're based in the UK or Europe; we hire hybrid & remote in the UK and fully remote across the EU. We love distributed teams. For this role, we’re ideally looking for candidates based within one hour either side of London time to keep collaboration smooth and calendars sane.

Specific Skills & Experience

• You have strong frontend skills (React, JavaScript—Next.js a plus).
• You care about craft—especially motion, polish and user experience.
• You are comfortable owning work end‑to‑end, including deployment and performance.
• You can collaborate confidently with creative and non‑engineering teams.

Our Tech Stack

Cleo is built as a Ruby on Rails monolith with a single React Native app frontend, utilizing TypeScript. We also leverage Python for machine learning services and PostgreSQL for our database, all hosted on AWS. Our CI/CD pipeline is fully automated, with production deployments happening on every merge via Heroku. We place a strong emphasis on quality—code is peer‑reviewed and automated testing uses Minitest and CircleCI.

App Access

The Cleo app is downloadable in the UK & USA. We’re not currently in the EU. 99% of our users are based in the US – where financial health is often overlooked. We’ve decided to shift our focus to where we can provide the most value and make the greatest impact for users who need it most.
