Principal Product Manager – Upstream (Mortgages)
At Clear Score we’re on a mission to help people achieve greater financial wellbeing.
Within our Upstream mission, we focus on shaping and scaling new propositions that unlock meaningful value for our users.
A pathway to homeownership is a key milestone in our users’ journey to financial wellbeing.
We’re expanding our product team to support our global strategy in homeownership and mortgages.
As a Principal Product Manager working in our newly formed Upstream Mortgages team, you will hold responsibility for the viability and roadmap direction of this emerging vertical within the Clear Score ecosystem.
Reporting into the VP, Global Product, you will be central to shaping our Mortgages vertical — building on strong early foundations while evolving and extending the proposition from first principles where needed.
You will define roadmap content and sequencing, make clear trade-offs across user experience, commercial opportunity and build complexity, and ensure the proposition delivers sustainable value to our users and partners.
You’ll operate within a shared leadership model alongside a senior Design Lead, jointly guiding a cross-functional team spanning Product, Design, Engineering and Data.
While you will not have direct line management responsibility, you will play a central role in setting priorities, structuring work and driving clarity of decision-making across the team.
This is a high-impact role at the centre of bringing a complex new vertical to market, shaping how Clear Score shows up in one of the most important moments in our users’ financial lives.
It requires strong product judgement, commercial awareness and the confidence to make well-reasoned decisions in a multi-stakeholder environment.
What you will be doing
- Build on existing strategic thinking, identifying clear paths to user, partner and business value and shaping the proposition’s continued evolution.
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in the homeownership and mortgages landscape, building strong external awareness across partners, regulation and industry trends to inform product direction.
- Own the global roadmap for the homeownership and mortgages proposition, defining priorities and sequencing to ensure long-term viability and coherence in line with overall strategy.
- Lead structured product discovery to validate desirability, viability and feasibility, using qualitative insight, quantitative data and commercial understanding to inform decisions.
- Make clear, balanced trade-offs between user experience, commercial constraints and technical complexity, ensuring focused and coherent progress.
- Partner closely with Design to deliver a compelling, simple and user-centred experience within a complex domain.
- Collaborate with Commercial and Data stakeholders to ensure the proposition is grounded in market dynamics, partner realities and measurable outcomes, while retaining clear accountability for product direction.
- Structure ambiguous problem spaces into clear work-streams, guiding and elevating work across the team — including elevating the quality of thinking and execution across more junior Product colleagues.
- Drive momentum and decision-making, ensuring stakeholders are meaningfully engaged throughout the innovation lifecycle.
Skills we'd love you to have
- You know what good Product Management looks like and are comfortable owning meaningful proposition-level problem spaces within an established strategic direction.
- You have demonstrated experience shaping new propositions from first principles, not only optimising existing products.
- You are confident shaping roadmap direction and making clear trade-offs across competing constraints.
- You are commercially aware and think in terms of value exchange, incentives and long-term proposition coherence — not just feature delivery.
- You are comfortable operating within a shared leadership model, partnering closely with senior Design while retaining clear accountability for product viability.
- You bring clarity to complex discussions and are able to move from alignment to decision — making well-reasoned calls even when consensus is incomplete.
- You are intellectually confident and willing to challenge existing thinking constructively where evidence or judgement suggests a better path.
- You combine structured discovery with strong product intuition, balancing rigour with momentum and knowing the fastest routes to validate key hypotheses.
- Experience in mortgages or adjacent regulated financial products is highly desirable, though strong product craft and Clear Score ecosystem understanding may compensate.
