About Us:
ClearRoute is an engineering consultancy bridging Quality Engineering, Cloud Platforms and Developer Experience. We help enterprises reliably bring high-impact digital products to market faster, cheaper, and safer, working with technology leaders facing complex business challenges.
We take as much pride in our people, culture and work-life balance as we do in making better software. We’re not just making better software. We’re making the making of software better. Collaborative, entrepreneurial and dedicated to problem solving, we bring the step change our customer need to sustain innovation. Our values challenge us to do the best we can for ClearRoute, our customers and most importantly our team. This is an opportunity for you to build the organisation from the ground up, use your voice to drive change and help transform organisations and problem domains.
Role:
We’re looking for a senior, hands-on engineering leader to help a major financial services client transform the way its engineering teams build, test and deploy software. You’ll have strong executive sponsorship and the authority to unblock teams, influence engineering strategy and drive change across multiple feature teams.
The focus is simple: make engineering faster, safer and more effective — particularly around automated testing, CI/CD, developer experience and AI-assisted development. You’ll be working at the intersection of engineering leadership, platform engineering and modern software delivery, with the opportunity to shape how teams work at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Establish SRE ownership and practice across two platforms where no SRE currently exists.
-
Bring management and discipline to "run" for the risk decisioning system, which is currently under a run-and-change model without adequate run oversight.
-
Take on run and change responsibilities for a key business platform, an AWS-hosted third-party application.
-
Help determine and define the on-call requirement for each platform, including assessing how time-critical incidents are.
-
Extend SRE coverage or input into other areas of the department once initial scope is established, operating at a level where this direction-setting and prioritisation is expected.
Required Experience:
-
Proven Senior Site Reliability Engineering experience spanning both "run" (operational support) and "change" (deployment/release) responsibilities.
-
Experience establishing or maturing SRE practice on platforms where little to no SRE discipline previously existed.
-
Ability to work across multiple, distinct platforms/applications concurrently as a single point of SRE ownership, operating with the seniority to set direction rather than simply execute.
-
Working experience with AWS-hosted environments
-
Experience operating alongside or supporting third-party/vendor-built applications.
We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate that they've taken a broken, slow or overly manual engineering process and materially improved it at scale.
Desirable Experience:
-
Experience within financial services / banking environments, ideally at VP level or above.
-
Experience helping a business define or right-size an on-call model, including assessing genuine incident time-criticality rather than defaulting to full 24/7 cover.
-
Experience scaling an SRE function's remit across a wider department once initial platforms are stabilised.
-
Financial services or other highly regulated environments.
-
Anthropic/Claude or other AI coding platforms.
-
Setting up developer experience platforms spanning IDE + AI model + agent/tooling.
-
Platform engineering across developer experience, cloud, automated testing and security.
-
Large-scale engineering transformation or developer productivity initiatives.
