Overview: Our client is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team based in Chelmsford, Essex.

Working closely with the commercial team, you will assist in the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account.

You will support the measurement and valuation of works, procurement of subcontract packages, cost reporting, contract administration, risk management, and financial forecasting.

The role offers the opportunity to gain broad experience across a variety of projects within sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, public sector, and leisure.

You will have strong communication and organisational skills, methodical, and a proactive approach to learning.

Working alongside experienced commercial professionals, you will support the successful financial delivery of projects while gaining valuable experience across pre-construction and project delivery phases.

A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline is desirable.

Skills

  • A degree, HNC/HND, or currently working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a construction, commercial, or quantity surveying role, either through employment, placement, or apprenticeship.
  • A basic understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.
  • Good numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and supply chain partners.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • A willingness to learn and develop your commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively.
  • A proactive attitude with a commitment to achieving high standards of work.
