About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented SQL Database Administrator with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL or DB2 to support and enhance complex database environments. You’ll ensure optimal performance, integrity, and security of databases while supporting development and operations teams in maintaining reliable and scalable systems. This role offers the opportunity to work across dynamic projects in secure environments, where your technical insight and problem-solving abilities will directly contribute to mission-critical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and optimise SQL databases across development, testing, and production environments.
- Monitor database performance, implementing tuning and optimisation strategies.
- Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to design and implement efficient database solutions.
- Write and optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions.
- Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Automate database tasks and maintenance using scripting tools (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues promptly.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions for database infrastructure.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years’ experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar technical role.
- Strong, hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or DB2 in production environments.
- Advanced proficiency in writing and optimising SQL queries.
- Familiarity with database monitoring and performance tuning tools.
- Experience working within Linux/Unix environments.
- Understanding of database security principles and data privacy regulations.
- Proven experience with backup, recovery, and DR procedures.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of other RDBMS technologies (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server).
- Experience implementing high-availability and replication configurations.

This role is part of a managed services team, responsible for maintaining and improving client IT systems (applications and infrastructure). Some shift and on-call work may be required to support 24/7 operations and after-hours deployments. Must hold an active Australian security clearance and be willing to work on-site as needed.
