About the Opportunity
An internal promotion has created a rare opportunity for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to step into a corporate-based role that directly influences operational strategy across multiple underground coal operations. Working closely with the Principal Mining Engineer, you will play a key role in identifying and delivering technical solutions, supporting life-of-mine planning, and driving operational improvements across a portfolio of underground coal mines. This role offers the flexibility to be based in either Sydney CBD or Newcastle, working Monday to Friday in a collaborative corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-level technical support in underground mine planning, mine design, and operational strategy.
- Identify and lead improvement projects that enhance operational performance across multiple underground mine sites.
- Support the development and implementation of mine planning systems, standards, and best practices.
- Assist with life-of-mine, five-year, and annual planning processes for operating mines.
- Provide technical input for feasibility studies, project evaluations, and potential new developments.
- Prepare technical reports, mine designs, and economic assessments.
- Collaborate with site-based teams, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistency and quality in planning processes.
About You
This role would suit an experienced mining engineer who thrives in a strategic environment and enjoys working across multiple sites and projects. You will bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline recognised in Australia.
- Extensive experience in underground coal mining, particularly in operational mine planning (short, medium, and long-term).
- Strong technical ability in mine design, scheduling, and strategic mine planning.
- Experience developing or implementing mine planning systems and processes.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with site teams and senior stakeholders.
- Previous exposure to open cut operations will be well regarded but not essential.
