Role Overview
The Director of Engineering for Fincrime at ClearBank is a key member of the Innovation team leadership, charged with driving the technology agenda for the financial crime area, in conjunction with their product counterpart. Overseeing a cluster of 14 engineers, with 2 Engineering Managers and a Staff Engineer as direct reports, the Director is tasked with innovating within a crucial business area with a variety of challenging 3rd party dependencies.
The Director must be a proponent of Agile principles and understand how to operate in a product-led environment with teams focused on outcomes in a regulated environment. In close partnership with other functions, the Director will play a pivotal role in enhancing ClearBank proposition and driving commercial growth.

Responsibilities Of The Director Of Engineering For Fincrime
- Lead the overall technology strategy, execution, and delivery for the fincrime cluster.
- Manage and develop Engineering Managers, identifying any hiring requirements.
- Drive cross-functional partnerships and collaborate with Product Leadership to create a best-in-class technology environment for rapid delivery.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and design robust and scalable technology solutions, overseeing the development and maintenance of products and applications to meet business requirements and industry standards.
- Plan and execute technology projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget, coordinating resources, managing risks, and monitoring project progress.
- Drive a culture of independent teams that promote transparency in their work using metrics and following industry best practices.
Experience Required
- Extensive experience in leading people managers and technology teams.
- Demonstrated technology judgments and commercially viable decision-making.
- Experience working within financial crime.
- Experience managing high scale 24hr technology platforms.
- Ability to independently solve business problems and delegate effectively.
- Commitment to using best practices to improve products/services or processes.
- Expertise in cloud computing and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Knowledge of risk management processes and delivering software in regulated environments preferable.
- Experience with payments screening preferable.

Our Hiring Process And What You Can Expect
- Application: a member of our talent acquisition team will review your application against the key requirements for the role and let you know within two weeks whether you’re moving forward to the next stage;
- Screening: You’ll spend 30-45 minutes speaking to one of our recruiters learning more about the role and ClearBank, and we’ll get to know more about you, your experience and how your skills align with the role (this will be via phone or Teams video call). You can expect to hear back from us within seven days following this meeting (if things are taking longer than expected, we’ll let you know that too);
- First Interview: You’ll spend one hour with a member of our hiring team focusing on your skills, competencies and your ways of working at the same time we’ll give you time to ask more questions about the role, the team and learn more about the ClearBank culture. This will be via Teams.
- Second Interview: This will be a competency-based interview with one or more members of our team.
- Final Stage: You will have a final meeting with the Head of Department. This will be around 45-60 minutes.
