Clear Wave Search is partnering with a leading renewable energy developer to appoint an ambitious Electrical Engineer, focusing on grid connections and project development.

The client specialises in flexible generation and grid stability solutions that enable the UK energy sector’s shift towards net zero. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting edge grid stability projects and support the development of strategic energy initiatives across the UK and Ireland.

Based out of their office in Cardiff, the client can offer hybrid and remote working, alongside a weekly office presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out power system studies like load flow, short circuit, dynamic stability (RMS), and EMT analysis using tools such as PSCAD and PowerFactory.
  • Build and update models of transmission and distribution networks to reflect how the system looks now and what’s planned for the future.
  • Share electrical input on where new projects should go and what their electrical setup might look like – helping shape early designs and feasibility checks.
  • Design grid connections, including single line diagrams (SLDs), protection layouts, and overall electrical system plans.
  • Get involved during construction – supporting development, procurement, and client conversations, and overseeing detailed electrical studies where needed (especially those linked to G99 and the Grid Code).
  • Keep an eye on new technologies and Grid Code updates to help shape how projects are developed and delivered.
  • Help improve internal technical specs, standards, and processes to keep things consistent and maintain high engineering standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • You’ll need at least a BEng or MEng in a relevant field like Electrical Power Engineering or Power Electronics.
  • If you’ve gained solid hands‑on experience through contracting, consulting, or industry placements, we’d love to hear from you.
  • The role suits early‑career professionals, including postgrad engineers or those looking to move into a specialist energy role.
  • You should be comfortable with modelling and simulation tools like PSCAD, PowerFactory, or similar.
  • Some programming or scripting experience (e.g. Python, Octave) and familiarity with GitHub in a power systems context would be great.
  • AutoCAD skills could come in handy, but they’re not a must.
  • You’ll be passionate about helping shape low‑carbon electricity networks and supporting the UK’s net zero goals.
  • You should be comfortable working independently and remotely when needed.
  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and presentation—are important, along with the ability to manage your time and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Practical Requirements

  • A full UK driving licence is required for site visits.
  • Access to a vehicle would be a plus.
  • Eligibility for annual bonus.

Benefits

  • Twenty-five days of paid holiday alongside UK public holidays.
  • Opportunity to be involved in the company electric car and/or cycle‑to‑work salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Flexible working options.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Training and development in line with business needs. The client will encourage any professional training and ambitions to gain relevant professional qualifications and will fund relevant professional memberships.
