Roles and Responsibilities

  • Notetaking – produce an accurate record of academic classes and hand it over to the student. Applicants must have a personal device that can be used for typed notes.
  • Exam Support – act as Reader, Scribe or Prompter (or a combination) during an exam setting:
    • Reader: read aloud relevant exam material to the student.
    • Scribe: write, word for word, the student’s answers to exam questions.
    • Prompter: prompt the student to remain focused on the exam paper.
  • Practical Support Assistance – assist with practical and mobility support tasks in educational situations and locations.
  • Study Assistant – provide a range of enabling strategies complemented by some practical assistance.

Availability

The work is flexible and can be arranged around applicants’ availability. A minimum of 2 days per week from 9am–5pm is required. Expected start: August 2026 at Edinburgh College. Hours are subject to support requirements and cannot be guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Work in person at the Sighthill campus; availability across Milton Road and/or Granton campuses is desirable.
  • Completed at least 1 year of higher education study, or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Clear and legible handwriting, accurate spelling and grammar, and proficient typing skills.
  • High‑level written and spoken English language capability.
  • Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Permission to work in the UK in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996.
  • Successful completion of background checks under the PVG Scheme and other applicable pre‑employment checks.
