My client is seeking an experienced Cost Clerk to join their law firm in Ashford, Surrey on a part-time basis (21 hours per week).
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with Legal Aid costing experience to play a key role in preparing and managing Legal Aid claims, working closely with fee earners and external Costs Draftsmen to ensure claims are submitted accurately and efficiently.
The Role
- You will be responsible for supporting the firm's Legal Aid costing function, including:
- Liaising with external Costs Draftsmen to prepare and finalise bills of costs
- Reviewing draft bills for accuracy and compliance before submission
- Working closely with fee earners to ensure files are complete and time records are accurate
- Checking bills of costs and Claim1 forms to ensure all disbursements have been included
- Managing amendments, queries and correspondence relating to costs claims
- Maintaining accurate records of submitted claims, payments and outstanding matters
- Ensuring all documentation is managed in accordance with firm procedures and GDPR requirements
- Assisting with the efficient progression of Legal Aid cost recovery
Requirements
- Previous experience in a Cost Clerk or Legal Aid costing role is essential
- Strong knowledge of Legal Aid Agency procedures, including CCMS and Claim1 forms
- Experience working with external Costs Draftsmen
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience using legal case management systems would be advantageous
