Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join their London, Greater London office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist costs professional with strong legal aid experience, particularly within family law, to join a well-established and growing team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maximising cost recovery, managing complex legal aid billing matters, and supporting colleagues with technical costs advice and best practice.

The Role

β€’ Preparing and submitting legal aid bills, including fixed fee, exceptional case and high-cost case claims

β€’ Managing CCMS submissions and ensuring compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements

β€’ Preparing and submitting supporting documentation and cost bundles

β€’ Drafting interim and final private client bills of costs

β€’ Advising on costs recovery strategies and negotiating costs settlements

β€’ Serving bills in accordance with procedural requirements and costs protocols

β€’ Liaising with fee earners, counsel, chambers and third parties regarding costs recovery

β€’ Monitoring recoverable disbursements and ensuring claims are submitted promptly

β€’ Supporting file closure processes and related administration

β€’ Providing guidance and training to colleagues on costs matters and best practice

β€’ Keeping up to date with developments in legal aid funding and costs legislation

The Candidate

β€’ Minimum 1 years' experience as a Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer

β€’ Strong background in legal aid costs, ideally within family law

β€’ Experience preparing inter partes bills and high-cost case claims

β€’ Excellent working knowledge of CCMS and Legal Aid Agency procedures

β€’ Strong understanding of costs law and Civil Procedure Rules relating to costs

β€’ Experience negotiating costs and maximising recovery

β€’ Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills

β€’ Strong organisational and time management abilities

β€’ Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team

β€’ Proficient with Microsoft Office and Costs Master

β€’ Professional and approachable manner
