Our client is seeking an experienced Crime Solicitor to join its team in Braintree, Essex.

You will be handling a varied criminal caseload and providing advice and representation to clients from initial instruction through to conclusion.

The role would suit a solicitor with experience of Legal Aid work and advocacy who is confident managing their own caseload.

The Role You will be responsible for

  • Interviewing and advising clients
  • Managing a varied criminal casework caseload
  • Undertaking advocacy and attending court, including Saturday Court
  • Attending police stations when required, including outside normal working hours
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case management records
  • Regularly reviewing cases and ensuring matters progress efficiently
  • Ensuring casework is billed promptly
  • Preparing bills for private clients and submitting interim payment claims to the Legal Aid Agency where appropriate
  • Keeping up to date with changes in criminal law and practice
  • Attending relevant training and professional development courses
  • Participating in the firm's 24-hour emergency line when required
