A fast-growing UK specialist property lender is looking to hire an experienced Bridging & Refurbishment Loan Underwriter to take ownership of credit assessment across new lending opportunities.
This is a core role within a lean, commercially focused business, offering genuine influence over credit decisions and portfolio quality. The position is hands-on and judgment-led, rather than process-driven.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite UK bridging, refurbishment, and commercial property loans
- Assess borrower quality, exit strategy, valuations (MV/OMV/GDV), and refurbishment costs
- Structure loans, setting LTV/LTC/GDV, pricing, drawdowns, and conditions
- Identify key risks and mitigants for credit approval
- Liaise with brokers, valuers, solicitors, and surveyors through to completion
- Support post-completion matters including extensions and variations
- Produce clear, concise credit papers and flag early risk issues
Requirements
Essential
- 2+ years’ experience underwriting UK bridging/refurbishment loans
- Strong knowledge of UK property markets, valuations, and development risk
- Comfortable with non-standard assets and limited information
- Commercial but downside-focused credit judgment
Desirable
- Background in private credit, specialist lenders, challenger banks, or debt funds
- Exposure to refurbishment monitoring or recoveries
